Sergey Alexeevich Egorov

Doctor of Laws, Professor, Honorary Professor of the Diplomatic Academy MFA Russia. Awarded with the order “Badge of Honor”. In 2003 – 2010 Professor Egorov was appointed as permanent judge to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. He coauthored the textbook "International Law", published by the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. The “Dictionary of International Law” was published under the editorship of Professor Egorov in 2014.

Education

1977 – Graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR, International law Faculty;

1984 – Candidate of Legal Sciences (International Public Law);

1999 – Doctor of Law (International Public Law).

Career

1977-1981 – senior staff member, Executive Committee of the Union of Soviet Societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, charged with the relations between the Soviet Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), problems of International humanitarian law. Participated in the preparatory process for the ratification of the two Additional Protocols to the Geneva Conventions of August 1949;

1978 – Probation at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda Geneva, Switzerland;

1984-2003 – Assistant professor, professor, Deputy Head of the International Law Chair, Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR/Russia;

1986 – Lecturer at Afghanistan Diplomatic Academy;

1987 Research visit to the Library of the European Department of the Organization of the United Nations (Geneva, Switzerland);

1989 – Participated as a lecturer in the Courses on International Humanitarian Law, organized by the ICTR (Warsaw, Poland);

1991 Research visit to the Library of the Organization of the United Nations New York (USA);

1995 - 2003 Legal expert and adviser to the State Duma (lower house of Federal Assembly) of the Russian Federation on international law, human rights, development of democratic institutions.

2010-2018 – Head of the International Law Department, Diplomatic Academy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia;

2018 - up to now Professor, International Law Department, Diplomatic Academy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

International projects / work in international organizations

2003 – 2010 Permanent Judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (elected by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2002).

1979 – Head of the USSR Red Cross delegation at the European Seminar on International Humanitarian Law (Krakow, Poland).
